HIDF and its community educators worked in 75 villages, 40 wards in 10 districts of Karnataka as a response to address the situation emerged due to covid pandemic. It worked with socio economically poor communities who struggled due to lack of access to food and medicine.
1. Providing emergency ration to ensure food security to more than 3000 families
2. Covid prevention and access to health care (Mask distribution, awareness, tele consultation, recovery and high-risk medication)
3. Coordination with the government to ensure access to covid related entitlements
4. Addressing loss of livelihoods through providing one time support
Kalika Kendras are supplementary learning centres which help the most disadvantaged children to cope better in mainstream schools. These Kalika Kendras also create the necessary skills and aptitude of the children to access various educational programmes and opportunities.
Although the Kalika Kendra was initially planned for Revatagoan village, the pressing need in Babalad led to its establishment there instead. Since its inception in September 2023, Kalika Kendra – Babalad has made remarkable strides in working with children from socio-economically poor communities.
A total of 70 to 80 students from classes 1 to 5 attend the Kalika Kendra at Babalad
In addition to academic tutoring, children at the Kalika Kendras engage in various cultural activities (singing, dancing, debates, etc.).
Teacher Training:
A 2-day training was conducted for all Kalika Kendra teachers. The focus was on action oriented and Communication-based approaches, utilising methodologies and tools to improve the teaching-learning process, while deepening their understanding of community values and issues.
Parents Support:
The program benefits from the active support of parents, particularly mothers. Regular Parent-Teacher Meetings are held, with high attendance demonstrating the parents' sustained interest in the Kalika Kendras.
Apart from the above HIDF and its team members participated in many other events like a marathon for fundraising, International Women’s Day, and so on.
