Roopantara - Community Engagement Initiative

HID Forum believes in restoring and strengthening the community leadership with the most marginalised and vulnerable like Dalits, sexuality minorities, informal economy workers, women, migrant workers, semi nomadic tribes, and other communities.

Roopantara is an initiative that aims to develop community-based facilitators, who will collectivise communities and facilitate shifts from their present conditions to a collectively identified vision for change. Upholding the values of democracy, diversity and intersectional approach is the core of the initiative. Roopantara draws from the learnings and experiences of Community Learning Programme (CLP) while creating new energy of its own.

12 Roopantaras from selected districts of Vijayapura (Bijapur), Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Bellary, Davanagere and Bengaluru strive to bring about a systemic change and support the most marginal communities in select districts of Karnataka.

Roopantara initiative will engage directly with community to:

1. Create safe spaces for the community to dialogue on critical issues and build a shared agenda for the community to create an equal and just society.

2. Identify, discuss and collectivise concerns of the community and collectively plan action through unpacking concepts of equality, justice, fraternity and other critical values in their relationships within communities and their local contexts.

3. Build alliances and collective networks in the region to support the communities.

4. Bring forth through documentation, recordings and other mediums, narratives of communities that are not commonly heard or seen.

5. Build capacities of the community to access and bridge gap between entitlements and justice.
